TERESIAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The CSST Kerala Province started a community college at Kalamassery on the 14th of November 2003, for the empowerment of underprivileged young women. The college provides one-year holistic education, to further the gainful employment of these persons. We offer one-year diploma course in the following work skills.

1.Health Assistant. (Nursing Assistant)

2. Office assistant

3. Pre- Primary teacher training.

4. Basic Computer Application

Apart from the above work skills, all students are given training in the following life skills during the beginning of the academic year, which is compulsory for all courses.

A.Spoken English

B. Interpersonal relationships and communication.

C.Basic Computer application

D.Life coping skills- such as Personality development, etiquettes, goal setting & motivation, problem solving, positive thinking, time & stress management, team building & leadership, coping with anger, loneliness, criticism, failure, fear, depression, etc.

The above skills are necessary and essential for every one today for a successful life. They are introduced to some self-employment programmes too.

The minimum qualification required for Nursing Assistant is a pass in the SSLC examination and Higher Secondary for Office Assistant & Nursery Teacher Training. Those who have higher qualifications are most welcome. The students can be married or single. Admission is open to all, irrespective of age, caste or religion.

Duration of the course:- 1 year & 3months (3 months practical) 5 days a week, 5 hours per day. Practical (internship) will be in the hospitals and offices according to the course taken. Total course fee is Rs 3000\-Those who are not able to pay fully, are asked to pay by instalment when they are employed, since many of them are from low income families.

From 2003 to 2008 the number of students completed the course are 20, 21,41,35,26 respectively. At present, this year we have 20 students and classes began from june 15th 2009 . we have our former students working as:-

1.Health Assistants-In Lourdes hospital, Kusumagiri Hospital Goutham Hospital, Lakeshore Hospital, Sunrise hospital etc.

2.Office Assistants-in Raymond's Show room, Lourdes Hospital, Skill Tech and many other Institutions, one or two each. They receive starting salaries in the range of Rs.2000/- to Rs.3,500/-excluding incentives and other benefits.

Our college is run according to the training and syllabus given to us by Indian Center for Research and Development of Community Education (ICRDCE).The director of the above center is Dr.Xavier Alphonse S.J, who was the former principal of Loyola College, Chennai.

We are delighted in sharing with you that Teresian Community College had applied for recognition as other state "Vocational Programme Center" (VPC) from Tamil Nadu Open University Vocational Education Programmes. The Dean of The University visited this institute and based on the inspection report, TNOU has informed us that this institute is provisionally granted recognition for a period of 4 years from August 2008 to July 2011, for many programmes.But suitable programmes for us will be

1. Diploma in Health Assistant (Nursing Assistant)

2.Diploma in Pre Primary Teachers Training (Kindergarten).

3.Diploma in Computer Applications.

The students, their families and the public in general are immensely grateful to God, the Provincial Superior and CSST sisters for starting this Teresian Community College, which uplift and empower many ladies every year. With their income they are able to support their families too financially.
